WILL KARTEL BE SUID FOR NOT DOING SHOWA IN ST.LUCIA

WHATSTHEVIBEZ.COM
Irate show promoters in St Lucia and Guyana are planning to sue dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel for a series of no-shows over the weekend. Kartel and members of his Portmore Empire were reportedly booked for a concert in Guyana on Saturday night, after which they should have moved on to St Lucia to perform on the last evening of a three-day event called Love Fest.
Reports are, however, that while some members of the Empire turned up, Kartel missed his flight to Guyana, not once, but twice, after which the promoter was asked to send a charter. According to one report, this was done, but the plane sat on the tarmac on Saturday and the deejay refused to leave Jamaica. Conscious Minds Promotions in Guyana reportedly suffered tremendous losses when they were forced to cancel the show. The Sunday Stabroek in Guyana noted that “a press release advised that persons who purchased tickets for the show will receive full refunds beginning Tuesday at all ticketing locations”.
The promoters are quoted as saying, “We again express our deep regret at the disappointment that our supporters must feel and pledge that we will make good with other promotions.”
Meanwhile, the St Lucia promoter Andrew Hayles, in an interview last evening with the Observer, said that he had spent over US$20,000.00 on plane fare just to ensure that Kartel would be present for his show, Love Fest, which has built up a solid reputation during its eight years.
Hayles said he was aware that there were some “security issues and threats” and he had assured the deejay that he would have been closely guarded throughout his visit to the island.
“And then he doesn’t even get in contact with us … somebody told us that there was a statement on YouTube and that’s how we knew that he was not going to take the charter. Well, we promoters have aligned ourselves, we have spread the word, we have even contacted BBC 1Xtra. And we are going to sue Kartel for our money. He charged us US$25,000.00 and he was paid his 50% deposit. We have to deal with Kartel,” Hayles said.
He stated, however, that the concert would go on last night since there were other big names on the bill. However those persons who wanted a refund would be accommodated.
It was in May this year that Kartel was banned from Grenada for the event, Rap-it-Up, which was to mark the official launch of his Daggerin condoms in that island. Government officials reportedly refused to issue a work permit because of his violent lyrics.
“Naturally, the Guyana promoter and myself have been communicating, since I was supposed to bring Kartel in from there. So those tickets went down the drain. Then I made direct contact with Kartel and he told me to send two first-class tickets for him and Jahvinci to travel from Jamaica. At 11:00 pm on Saturday we got the travel agent to open up her business place so we could purchase the tickets. Then plans changed and we were asked to get a charter and this was done. Then the next thing we know we hear on Sunday that Kartel had posted a statement on YouTube saying that he was not attending Love Fest in St Lucia and it was not the promoter’s fault,” Hayle said, still sounding bemused at all that had transpired.
A quick look at YouTube shows a 33-second clip with Vybz Kartel who identifies himself and then goes on to say “we a mek the people dem know from now that we won’t be attending Love Fest in St Lucia … but it’s no fault of the promoters or the promotion which is Hot FM … it’s just circumstances beyond our control.”

is this another war?
Producer Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor has released a songconfirming rumours of a rift between his Big ship
camp and deejay Vybz Kartel with the release of his first solo single Cyaa Friend Again.
For months, rumours have been circulating in the streets
and in the media that the producer and the deejay had ended their musical
relationship
with neither party confirming the rift – until now. In November, Kartel released Rifle Shot in which he insults McGregor which was followed by Blak Ryno’s Empty where he, too, took aim at the Big Ship camp.
Yesterday, McGregor released his own song Cyaa Friend Again. In a recent interview 19-year-old producer Stephen McGregor discussed the situation, confirming that he and Kartel will no longer be working together.
He said, “It’s pointing at a number of people based on my experiences with them; however, it was the recent activity of artistes such as Kartel and Ryno that pushed me to put those emotions and thought into song. Music is expression and that’s the best way I figured I could bring it out.”
Rumours started circulating earlier this year following Kartel’s no-show at the Big Ship produced show Rocksteady Meets Reggae and Dancehall. Kartel was scheduled to perform.
In the song, McGregor talks about a former friend who did him wrong singing, “Mi have a bagga ting fi talk/like how mi give dem strength and show dem love outta mi heart/neva know dem waan di link fi part/neva know dem waan di ship fi sink and wah we park/dem bwoy deh cyaan give wi nuh talk bring dem out inna di light when dem did a hide inna di dark.”
play hypocrite
The song continues, “Now yuh see me and some bwoy coulda never be frens/dem a play hypocrite but mi can neva pretend/from mi find out sey a enemy dem/mi cut off di frenship from di memory dem/ ask dem who give dem di melody dem/ but mi is a yute weh on nobody mi neva depend/no Jah Jah guide me from everything/mi put mi heart and mi soul inna every riddim.”
According to McGregor, he voiced the song about a month ago but changed the second verse after the release of Kartel and Ryno’s song. In the second verse, he sings, “God knows mi neva do dem nuh wrong/a true wi nuh tek programme from nuh man/dem mussi see sey mi stubborn caw nobody cyaan tell me how mi ting fi govern/mi not even frighten when dem call mi name inna song/same ting dem do Jesus wid di nail inna hand.”
As to the reasons for the rift, McGregor said, “Kartel violate big time and since then I no longer want to work with him, but the reason has nothing to do with him not coming to my father’s show. People should just listen keenly to the song and you’ll hear what’s up. The purpose of this song is not to ‘get a hype’ from the situation ’cause I don’t need one off Kartel’s career, it’s just me getting out all of those emotions and expressing it through song because I’m capable of doing so.”
McGregor emphasised that it will not be the start of a lyrical war between the two camps as he has no intention to respond musically after this. “It won’t matter to me whether or not he responds because I’m not doing a ‘clash’ song or nutten, I got out what I needed to say and that’s all.”
Adding, “Kartel and all a dem can fight me if dem want because Kartel himself always tell me that what I have over everyone is time, and the age factor will allow me to continue what I’m doing for years to come. I’m prepared for the fight I will be getting from various people but it doesn’t matter ’cause I’m still gonna be doing what I do best to the best of my ability and ship a sail.”
TIMBERLAND TIED THE KNOT AND LEFT HIP HOP?
Timbaland used to puzzle hip-hop heads in a good way. Across a string of innovative hit singles with acts like
Missy Elliott,
Jay-Z and
Bubba Sparxx, Timbo brought a wild mixture of futuristic sounds and unique composition to the masses. After Missy's '
This Is Not a Test,' he made his initial proclamation that he was done with hip-hop and wanted to work in other genres, citing
Coldplay as an example of where his work was headed. The content on 'Shock Value II' pretty much finalized this new evolution. The record features collaborations with popsters like
Katy Perry,
Justin Timberlake and (gulp)
Miley Cyrus, and Timbaland has again proclaimed that he is done with hip-hop.
The reason? According to a recent
interview with MTV, Timbaland doesn't think hip-hop fans are with him anymore and they certainly aren't buying enough records to justify working in the genre any longer.
"I know 75 percent [of the people who buy my album] are women who love Timbaland and most are women who watch '
Desperate Housewives' and all those others," he said to MTV News. "I did this research. It's the women who watch '
Sex and the City,' 'Desperate Housewives' -- all the real go-to-the-bar women like Timbaland, and mostly European women. It lets me know that my fan base is mostly women and they are from all cultures. So it's not a person who loves mostly hip-hop. It's a person who loves everything besides hip-hop."
While admitting that he's making music for consumers based on marketing is a little suspect, Timbo says that his generation is outgrowing hip-hop and no longer has much say in the culture. Some new rappers, such as
Drake, will continue to receive the almighty invite to work with the super-producer, but for the most part, hip-hop is dead to him.
"I was done with hip-hop a long time ago," he continues. "Once my generation left, I left. I do it, but there's nobody from my generation besides Jay who's doing it. I look at Lil Wayne as being from my generation. Some people are still acceptable. Kanye is acceptable from my generation."
We do feel it's important to put this in a little context. The 38-year-old Timbo is in the same generation as the 27-year-old
Lil Wayne? It seems like this could be translated as meaning that Timbaland will only work with the extremely financially successful and hyped artists in hip-hop (aka pop stars). Otherwise, he's dead to the culture
BUJU BONTON GETS CAUGHT WITH 5 KILOS ......
Reggae artist
Buju Banton is currently sitting in a Miami jail facing federal drug charges. Banton, whose '
Rasta Got Soul' is nominated for the Best Reggae Album Grammy, was taken into U.S. federal custody following his arrest Thursday (Dec. 10) on conspiracy to posses and sell over five kilograms of cocaine a spokesman for the Drug Enforcement Administration confirmed.
Although details surrounding the case are scarce, the arrest stems from an incident that took place in Tampa, Florida, where Banton, born Mark Anthony Myrie, will be transported. At press time, a rep for the Jamaican singer had not yet released a statement regarding the matter.
This isn't the first time that Banton has found himself in the press for a not so flattering situation. In 1992 he caused a stir with the song 'Boom Bye Bye' which contain lyrics that some believe promote violence against homosexuals. As a result, 'Rasta Got Soul,' has been met with protest by gay and lesbian organizations. Additionally, several tour dates promoting 'Rasta Got Soul,' were canceled or moved due to protest.

RAP CRITICISM
Rap newcomer Wale recently discussed his stance on the lack of rap unity and popularity of criticism amongst emcees rather than an emphasis on bettering the rap game as a whole.
Aside from speaking on the critics, Wale also touched on his relationships with Kid Cudi and Drake.
“Why can’t you make a song without a hook on it? Why can’t you shout somebody out because you like them and not have it called d*ck riding?,” Wale asked in an interview. ‘Why can’t people go out and buy more than one album and support one artist? Why does it have to be ‘F*ck Cudi because I like Drake’? Or ‘F*ck all the freshman. I know n*ggas that’s better.’ If you keep assassinating the artists, you’re going to kill the motherf*cking game…The separation is natural. Now if we’re talking about two dudes who are my personal friends like Drake and Kid Cudi, we talk on the phone and all that, we’re talking about a guy who’s emphasis is melody and music for a specific type of person. Me and Cudi probably wouldn’t have hung out in high school. I watch sports all day and I like sports and he likes what he likes. Drake, same thing. I think the music shows that. Even fashion. Come on. Let’s really pay attention to the fashion differences. But they’ll always put us in the same category and it’s not fair to either one of us.Rappers like 50 Cent have vouched for rap unity with events like the This Is 50 Festival last month.
“I wanted to make a festival that didn’t necessarily have to have an artist who has a single in rotation at the time,” 50 explained in an interview. “That doesn’t directly reflect good hip-hop. It reflects marketing dollars spent by the major corporations, the companies. Tonight we have everybody that means something to us musically in one spot. When I bring Cory Gunz, Trav, Maino…Now we got Jadakiss out here. This is real! Tell me anywhere else you can go where you can see everybody. It represents different portions of hip-hop. You got the Lox, the new young gunners Cory Gunz, Trav, Maino. Jimmy [Jones] and Juelz Santana coming. They say New York City, we don’t actually get along, that’s not true. We could work together and get more money than we can get apart, and they gonna see us do it in the future.

BEENIE PUTS JAY-Z ON BLAST.. CAN THAT CAUSE JAY Z AND BEYONCE TO BREAK UP?

DO YOU THINK BEENIE WILL BE THE CAUSEOF THEIR BREAK UP?
HERE IS THE JAY-Z DISS FROM BEENIE..
THE RESPONSE TO BEANIE SIGEL FROM JAY Z
ay-Z has responded to the barbed words of Beanie Sigel, in the aftermath of a diss song called “What You Talkin Bout I Ain’t Your Average Cat at a Canadian Press conference.
Jay-Z appeared at Montreal’s Bell Centre to answer questions from writers and reporters.
Sigel, once a prominent rapper in Jay’s Roc-A-Fella Records, expressed a number of issues with his former comrade. These matters ranged from loyalty to allegations that he had Sigel removed from a concert in Philadelphia by police.
Jay-Z made no mention of most questions that bothered Sigel, but he did say he felt he helped his counterpart greatly in an interview with a Canadian site.
“Beanie Sigel, to be honest and you can look it up, just to be honest…was driving two Bentleys. I don’t know how,” Jay-Z said at a press conference to the Canadian Hip-Hop site. “Its impossible to drive two cars at the same time. With his momma in the sticks, selling 800,000. I don’t know what more you can do for somebody.”
“What people choose to do when they obtain that type of success, at some point you gotta look in the mirror and look at yourself,” Jay continued. “Beanie Sigel had a record deal, a record label and a clothing line…and never went platinum. Ever. I don’t know in the history of rap has anyone done so much with so little. So, I don’t know what more can you do for a person at that point. A record deal - that’s normal. A record label and a clothing line. If that’s not pushing the person…s**t.”
Friday morning, Sigel spoke to Philadelphia radio host Charlamagne Tha God and aired out his grievances, which seemed more about loyalty than any other topic.
“I think I held my tongue long enough about this whole Roc-a-Fella situation,” Sigel. “I was the realest thing that happened to the Roc. The Roc was just a rock. I brought the Fellas to Roc-a-Fella Records; Hot 97, State Prop, y’all remember. I brought the street cred to that. I fought all them battles: Jadakiss, Nas, Dipset. Anybody you woulda told me to go after. Matter of fact, you ain’t even have to tell me. I frontlined for that thing of ours, for that diamond that people was throwin’ up. I’da took a bullet at that time.”
Sigel also stated the he wasn’t really dissing Jay-Z even though some of his raps seemed to counter that assertion.
The displeased rapper explained, “I’m not really dissing Jay. It’s certain parts in there where my emotions … it’s an emotional record for me. When I listened to The Blueprint 3, I heard a lot of shots directed towards people.

KANYE WEST GETS CRITICIZED BY OBAMA!
Rapper Kanye West's behavior at the 2009 VMA Awards helped him earn criticism from the most powerful man on earth, United States President, Barack Obama. President Obama was being interviewed for CNBC earlier today when he labeled West a “jackass” for crashing the stage as country singer Taylor Swift was receiving an award for Best Female Video. President Obama made the “jackass” comment about West during an off the record portion of an interview. "Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a 'jackass' for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential," ABC's Terry Moran Tweeted before deleting the comment. ABC issued a statement apologizing for Moran’s Tweet. “ABC In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview,” ABC said in a statement. “This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again.” The Presidential backlash comes after an allegedly drunk Kanye West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech for winning Best Female Video for “You Belong With Me,” which topped Beyonce’s hit song “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It.)”
Bow Wow Joins Cash Money 'It was a no-brainer,' rapper says of joining forces with Lil Wayne, Omarion and others.
Bow Wow took to
UStream and
Twitter on Sunday night to make the big announcement he'd been teasing his fans with for some time: "It's official, I'm a Cash Money Millionaire," he told his thousands of viewers and followers.
The rapper had parted ways with his longtime label, Columbia Records, earlier this year. In previous Twitter dispatches, he explained he was deciding between two recording options: T.I.'s Grand Hustle camp through Atlantic Records or relaunching So So Def when Jermaine Dupri signed a new deal.
In the end, a third option emerged.
"We had two sit-downs," Bow Wow said of meeting with Cash Money. "Upon the first sit-down, I called [co-CEO Birdman] and told him what I wanted to do. So it was a no-brainer. He was like, 'Bow, you always been family. Next to Wayne, I look at you like my son. If you not with JD, you with us.' From there, it was a done deal. So I wanna thank [him], Slim and Wayne."
Bow Wow's addition to the Cash Money collective follows the announcement that Omarion had inked with Lil Wayne's Young Money imprint. The two moves, along with Drake's signing, are a far cry from the label's early days when the Hot Boyz — a cast that included Wayne, Juvenile, B.G. and Young Turk — were the central act. Now, with a stable of rapping matinee idols, the crew boasts a lineup as deep as any label.
"We all want to win, and in order to do that, we have to cover all bases," Bow said. "With me coming to Cash Money, I bring something to the table that hasn't been there in their history. I bring the whole Hollywood side, from that perspective."
Bow Wow said he'll also continue to work with mentor Jermaine Dupri. "He's always gonna be there right by my side," Bow said.
Next up, the rapper said he'll release the
Greenlight mixtape, followed by a single in late November and a new album tentatively set for release by the end of the year.

VYBZ KARTEL THE PEOPLES CHAMP !!
Recognized by the people as one of the best Dancehall Artist in the world, Vybz Kartel has played a fascinating role in Dancehall culture, with an influence that has reached far beyond music. Vybz Kartel born as Adidja Azim Palmer is dubbed one of the best lyricists in dancehall music to date. Vybz Kartel first emerge on the scene as bounty killers protégé, ghost writing songs for the Warlord and various artistes such as elephant man to name a few.
At the time up and coming producer Don Corleon noticed Vybz Kartel talents and eagerly started working with the artiste. Vybz Kartel then went on to create hits such as “ New millennium” on the Mad antz riddim featuring Wayne Marshall, “Why” on the crazy riddim and “why again” on the good to go riddim.
Vybz Kartel now established in the Dancehall Music industry released 2 albums produced by Don Corleon “Up 2 Di time” and “J.M.T”. He was nominated for the Source, Vibe and UK Mobo Awards. Kartel went on to collaborate with international artistes such as Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, Cameron, Missy Elliot and the move your body girls Nina Sky.
Being Bounty killer’s protégé it was no shock that Vybz Kartel would be part of the infamous group called the ALLIANCE. This group at the time consisted of the warlord himself, Vybz Kartel, Elephant man, Wayne Marshall, Aidonio, Busy Signal and now dancehall superstar the Gully Gad Mavado.
Kartel played a major role in the Alliance, helping the up and coming members to fame, but With such a powerhouse group and strong personalities there was no surprise that there would be clash of egos, never the less Kartel left the group in 2006.
With his publicized departure from the Alliance Kartel now had a few nemesis from his former group, which resulted in an ongoing feud where numerous diss records from both parties was released, such as “Mr. palmer” Vybz Kartel diss and “mofraudo” Mavado diss. Kartel and Mavado was now at the forefront of this feud.
With the back and forth diss records from both individuals it was inevitable that this feud would be settled at the greatest one night show on earth (Sting 08). Sting 2008 depending on who you ask, where you were and what you heard, the jury is still out on who won the most anticipated clash of 2008. It was 5am when the most eagerly anticipated artist Vybz Kartel and Mavado begun to arrive at the venue. Kartel made an early cameo with female Dj Spice for their performance of the hit “Ramping Shop”; it got the crowd going and raises the intensity meter.
It was Showtime and once both were on stage the words of lyrics begun to fly. The die hearted fan stood and watch while others took cover.
When the smoke cleared and the battle was over the last man standing was Vybz Kartel, to the media’s eye Mavado had won the clash but to the people of Jamaica Kartel had took home the Crown.
Months after the face-off Vybz Kartel has drop more hits on the dancehall scene than his nemesis Mavado, such as “Last man standing ”, “Dollar Sign” and “Virginity”. He has took the air wave by storm and remains a force to be reckon with
Kartel, the People’s Champ is a fresh reassessment of the place of a giant music idol, he reflects the times in which he’s living and the hardships to success. He’s looked upon by the ghetto youths of Jamaica as a symbol of hope that success is reachable.

Game to Jay-Z: 'Please Beef With Me, I Have an Album to Promote'
For
the Game's latest attempt to stay relevant at any cost, he's resuscitated his "beef" with
Jay-Z (which Jay didn't really acknowledge then, either), adding a sycophantic new twist by begging the rapper-turned-mogul to beef with him to help promote his new album. Jay reportedly responded by saying he'd rather "Just let him commit suicide," Which is a real possibility if you remember
this.
Not one to let a bad idea die, Game spoke with 104.7 on Wednesday and professed that he's "too disrespectful for Jay, I go to hard. His beef is mediocre beef, it's more swag and less hardcore. Me, I go in on your grandma, your kids and your girl. It will get ugly and I don't mind. I have a whole coast to back me. My coast will turn their backs on whoever I turn my back on."
First of all -- "Super Ugly" anyone? Condoms on
Nas' baby seat? We're pretty sure Hova knows a thing or two about going hard. Pause. Secondly, as 50 once said, "NEWSFLASH! Nobody believes you." Last we checked, the West just put up with him because, well...rap kinda sucks lately and he picks good beats."I can be a fan of Jay, and still rip him limb from limb lyrically, and still be a fan," Game continued, defying all logic. "After I finish him off, I'm still going to listen to 'Reasonable Doubt' afterwards. I'll kiss Jay goodbye with his own lips. I'm going to make him mad enough to where he has to say something. Jay, I'm a make you so mad you gonna have to dis me."
Yes, and then millions of fans will respond by buying Game's album with his own money. What? He finally concluded with a shameless plea: "I need him to do it, I got an album coming out- help me." So that was weird. But then again, this time last year he was tattooing a butterfly on his face...

Last week, a company called Red City Entertainment filed suit against multi-platinum rapper
Lil Wayne for missing a scheduled concert appearance on September 27, 2008, in the Bahamas.
According to the promoter's allegations, on the evening in question the Louisiana rapper was found by police, lying unconscious in his hotel room, after failing to show up at the venue at his scheduled call time.
Red City is seeking $432,000 in restitution for his advance and travel arrangements, but his manager Cortez Bryant counters that Wayne's no-show was due to breach of contract on the promoter's side.Bryant made a statement that the September 27 date was in fact a make up date, as the concert had been originally scheduled for the previous day.

Though Maino was initially hesitant to discuss the details of the show, or even admit its existence, he eventually broke down and gave them the story, saying "It's 90% solidified, this is why I haven't really spoke on it...There's something reality based...MTV-ish...It's about a white dude that doesn't come from our culture, who doesn't understand the rap game...he lives with me and tries to understand what goes on in our world."
REGGAE
BERES A MOMENT IN TIME
Backed by his Harmony House Band, Beres delivered an incredible show to thousands and thousands of fans who weathered torrential rain to see his performance at the staging of the 19th Annual Jamaica Day celebration in Toronto, produced by iPEG and Kaya Entertainment. Performing hit songs such as “Rockaway,” and “Tempted to Touch,” Beres could hardly get the words out as the massive crowd delivered his every word! Also performing songs from his 2008 album ‘Moment In Time,’ Beres delivered songs “Feel Good” and “No Goodbye” which unified the collective ‘rock’ of the crowd as they danced to his incredible performance.
After the show, Beres shared that he felt good about the performance, and was happy to be able to see his Toronto fans despite the heavy rain. “I feel Blessed” he said, “I’m happy we were able to perform and the fans had a good time!”
In addition to Jamaica Day, Beres performed at the Big Sexy in Oshawa, Ontario the night before which saw hundreds of fans treated to an up close and personal performance. The song “Putting Up Resistance” was especially well received as Beres reminded fans that despite Life’s pressures, we have to ‘put up resistance.’ Beres’s speech and performance became a little too much for one female fan who jumped on the stage to get a personal dance with Beres. Beres’s Manager and Security had to pry the lady from Beres, but not before she kissed him, and waved to the other ladies, triumphant at her closeness and saying “that’s right!”
BOUNTY KILLA IN POLICE CUSTODY !
Jamaican dancehall star, Bounty Killa, was last night in police custody. The singer, whose real name is Rodney Pryce, turned himself into police yesterday based on a two-year-old charge. He faces charges of illegal possession of a firearm, unlawful wounding and assault relating to a September 27, 2007 incident. Bounty could face a sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted of assaulting an off-duty policeman in 2007. It is alleged that a group of men who were part of the deejay`s entourage used their motorcars to block a section of St Lucia Avenue in New Kingston. A policeman who was driving his private motorcar asked them to move the motorcars so that he could pass but several men allegedly assaulted the policeman. He was slapped in the face and chest.
It is alleged that Bounty Killer pulled a firearm during the incident. The deejay will appear in the Gun Court today and could be released on bail.
Zebra is accused of sexually assaulting a 13 year child. Garfield ‘Zebra’ Vassell, who the police said is wanted for rape, was released from prison on September 6 after serving seven of a 10-year sentence for a similar crime. It is said that several persons became concerned about the child when she began to behave in a strange manner. The police were informed and an investigation launched. The mother of the teenager was taken in after she admitted that she suspected that her child was sexually active but did nothing about it. As a result, she is being held on suspicion of aiding and abetting, while the police said that they are searching for the artiste.
Zebra rose to prominence in the 1990’s with a number of popular hits. While riding the wave of success, he was charged with the rape of an 18-year-old university student who was assaulted in the bushes near Barry, St Catherine, in January 2001. He was also convicted for assault at common-law, stemming from an incident involving is girlfriend.
Since his release, Zebra has attempted to reclaim his prominence in the dancehall which remains futile.
FOOTA HYPE MOTHERS HOUSE SHOT UP!
Selector Foota Hype now have reasons to believe that his life may be in danger. This stems from an internal war that has been brewing between himself and the Alliance…more particularly David Brooks aka Mavado.
Indications are that it could lead to gun violence. According to reports last week Saturday Foota Hype said he was on his phone talking to his mother, Doreen, when gunshots rang out in the background. His mother screamed, and his blood ran cold.
The selector was quoted as saying “Me and her did a reason when it happen, pure gunshot. Mi lose 10 pound same time, mi shoes full a water, mi head swell up, mi tun eediat and mi drive go round de. Mi mother a bawl, mi just happy say she never got shot, mi mother house shot up and she no dead, mi just haffi thank God,” he said. Foota Hype said he knew who perpetrated the act, and that person is aligned to certain factions within the community.
“We know who do it and who that person is affiliated to. 50 persons say him no know bout it and 50 persons say he knows about it, but if that is the case, why not cut all ties to the people who give you a bad name.”
The selector vented his feelings on another website as he stressed that they were trying to intimidate him by getting to his mother. But according to him that tatics won’t work as he says “The Gully ah mine. I was born on the block. Me strengthen him, and mek him into a full grown giant. Now him want to crush who mek him ah eat. We ah go see if God ah allow that to happen.”
The stakes have been raised considerably especially in light of police reports that Mavado’s apartment uptown was shot up on Monday night.
“Somebody call me from foreign and tell me that it happened. Lastnight, I went to Uptown Mondayz and mi wrath. Mi talk mi mind, because my defence is music, I am not a gunman, I can’t afford to buy guns and bullets. Him call himself the Gully Gaad, but mi ah leave everything to God. If me live fi live, mi ah go live.”
